response to Marcia Tate book Respond to this quote: How is lack of imagination an obstacle in reading comprehension? What techniques have you found to be successful in facilitating visualization when reading.
Students with lack of imagination have trouble making predictions. When I read aloud to students, they have a spiral in which they may write and/or draw while they are listening. We share our responses each day either with the whole class or with buddies. When students are reading independently, I have used post-it-notes placed strategically within the text for responses. We share those, as well. Sometimes I have students draw about a prompt before writing and this helps develop ideas with visualization.
